We envision communities where everyone who desires home ownership can access housing that is affordable, safe and sustainable.
There is a severe housing shortage crisis in the United States and it is only getting worse. Housing costs has become increasingly untenable for renters and buyers alike; over 40% of renters are cost-burdened (meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on housing costs), and housing prices are rising faster than wage growth in 80% of U.S. markets. Morever, the situation has been exacerbated by the work-from-home boom and supply chain shortages that resulted fromn the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reducing construction costs through automation of construction processes is the best route to improve access to affordable housing. One exciting innovation that we are exploring in housing construction is 3D printing. It produces houses that are safe from fire, tornadoes, hurricanes and floods.
BML's inaugural foray into affordable housing using 3D technology is focused on addressing the immediate local need for over 1,000 affordable houses by the end of 2024. It also will include the construction of a materials manufacturing plant in the state. This will serve as a distribution hub for additional regional housing projects.
